Elon Musk Life Story:
Elon Reeve Musk is a great entrepreneur, he is the co-founder of PayPal, and Tesla motors, and the founder of SpaceX. He became a multi-millionaire in his 20s after selling Zip2, to a division of Compaq Computers. In 2012, he made headlines when SpaceX launched a rocket that would send the first commercial vehicle to the International Space Station. He further purchased SolarCity in 2016. In January 2021, he surpassed Jeff Bezos as the wealthiest man in the world.
Elon Musk, Early Life and Education:
Elon Musk was born on June 28 1971, Pretoria, South Africa. Around the age of 10, he
developed an interest in computers. He learnt programming at an early age, and at the age of 12 he sold his first software called Blastar. In school, he was short, and often bullied until he turned 15, and learnt wrestling, and karate.
In 1989, at the age of 17, he moved to Canada to study business and physics from the University of Pennsylvania. He also perused a PHD in energy physics. In 2002, he became a US citizen.
Companies
With great set of qualifications, he got involved with several entrepreneurial ventures, such as Zip 2 corporation, PayPal, SpaceX etc.
- Zip2 Corporation- Elon Musk launched his first company in with his brother Kimbal Musk in 1995. Zip 2 corporation provided content for websites of New York Times, and Chicago Tribune. He became a millionaire when in 1999, Zip2, was brought by a division of Compaq Computers, for $307 million in cash and $34 million in stock.
- PayPal- In 1999, Elon and his brother found X.com, which was an online payments company, an acquisition of X.com one year later, led to what is today known as PayPal today. In 2002, Musk earned his first million dollars when eBay acquired PayPal for $1.5 billion in stock, before the sale Musk owned 11 percent of PayPal stock.
- SpaceX- Musk found his third company SpaceX in 2002, intending to build space – crafts for commercial use and space travel. SpaceX was very well established by 2008. NASA awarded the company contracts to handle Cargo transportation for the International Space Station. On May 22, in 2012, Musk and SpaceX launched their first Falcon 9 Rocket into space with an unmanned capsule.
In December 2013, a Falcon 9 carried a satellite to geosynchronous transfer orbit. Falcon 9s were also launched in the year 2015, and 17. They received US $ 1.6 million contract to supply the International Space Station. In 2015 SpaceX raised US$ 1 billion from investors like fidelity and Google, this increased the value of the company to over US$ 10 billion.
Behind every successful man lies a great amount of blood, sweat and tears. Elon Musk has earned where he is today. He has proved that with well directed efforts, and dedication anything can be achieved. His entrepreneurial ventures have greatly benefitted the world today.
He has crafted the entrepreneurial dream, by launching Rockets to space, and easing out transactions to just a click o0f a button. He is truly an inspiration, and a business leader to watch out for.
