Top 10 Singers in India (2026): Most Popular Indian Singers Right Now

Top 10 singers in India in 2026, ranked by Spotify streaming, verified awards and recent tours, from Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal to Diljit Dosanjh.

singers in India

For most of the past decade, the question “Who is India’s biggest singer?” was easy to answer. You opened your streaming app of choice and looked at who topped the charts every December.

Then came 2026. In January, Arijit Singh retired from playback singing. Diljit Dosanjh played stadiums from Vancouver to Toronto. Shreya Ghoshal set out on a 51-show world tour. And A.R. Rahman was scoring what could be one of the biggest Indian films ever made, sharing the job with Hans Zimmer.

Older lists that mix legends from the 1950s with artists on today’s playlists are less useful now. Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar shaped India’s musical identity, but they aren’t who India is streaming, buying tickets to see or honouring at award ceremonies right now.

This list is about now. To decide who made the cut, we looked at who Indians are listening to, who is still recording and touring, and who has real wins to back up the noise. Because streaming numbers change quickly, we give a date for the key figures below.

This guide looks at the top 10 singers in India in 2026, with each singer’s verified awards, biggest songs and what they are doing this year.

How We Ranked the Top 10 Singers in India

Claims of popularity are easy to make and hard to measure, so we relied on signals anyone can check with a quick search.

Streaming reach

Our starting point was Spotify Wrapped 2025 for India, published in December 2025. It named Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, A.R. Rahman, Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan among the ten most-streamed artists in the country. We also checked Spotify follower counts as of May 2026.

Verified awards

We counted National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards, Padma honours and international awards like the Grammys and Oscars. We checked each award against official lists or trusted records and removed anything we couldn’t verify.

Activity in 2025 and 2026

New releases, tours and high-profile performances from the last 18 months counted as well. A singer who is touring this year ranked higher than one whose biggest songs are a decade old.

What we left out

This is a list of singers, not composers who rarely sing, and it covers living artists who are still part of the conversation. We did not consider net worth or per-song fees, because we could not find reliable public numbers for either.

Honourable Mentions

Several other singers came close. Shankar Mahadevan won the Grammy for Best Global Music Album in 2024 with the fusion band Shakti, and he also has three National Film Awards and a Padma Shri. Armaan Malik won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best India Act in 2020 and 2022. Badshah and Karan Aujla were among Spotify’s most-streamed artists in India in 2024, though both are primarily rappers.

What Makes a Singer Popular in India in 2026

A few patterns stand out from this list.

Film songs still dominate

Most of the singers here built their careers on Bollywood soundtracks. Even in 2025, film soundtracks such as Saiyaara and Aashiqui 2 filled most of the top 10 on Spotify’s list of India’s most-streamed albums.

Live music is booming

Some of these singers are popular enough to headline major tours. Over the past year, Diljit Dosanjh, Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chauhan have all taken their shows on the road. Arijit Singh’s next big project after stepping away from playback singing is a nine-city tour.

Catalogue songs never fade

Old hits still rule the rankings. Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan made Spotify’s India top 10 in 2025 almost entirely on the strength of songs they recorded decades ago. In India, a great film song can find new listeners and stay popular for a generation.
