10 Best AC Brands in India (2026): Top Air Conditioner Brands Compared
Compare the 10 best AC brands in India for 2026: Voltas, LG, Daikin, Blue Star and more, with ownership, plants, new BEE ratings and a buyer's guide.

Buying an AC used to be easy in India. You picked a brand you trusted, asked your local dealer for a 1.5 ton split and waited for the installer to arrive.
It isn’t anymore. Summers are longer, electricity costs are higher, and since January 1, 2026, when stricter BEE star norms came into effect, the little star sticker on the box means more than it did a year ago. Cooling modes are AI-powered, controls run through apps, capacities are convertible and some units are rated for scorching outdoor temperatures. The shelf is cluttered, and the claims are louder than ever.
The good news is that sales are still dominated by a handful of companies, and their strengths are easy to tell apart once you sift past the sales talk. Some excel at reach and service networks. Some prioritize efficiency. A few bring global technology or smart-home features to mid-range price points.
India buys roughly 14 million air conditioners a year, according to industry estimates quoted by Blue Star’s managing director in April 2026, and only a fraction of homes own one today. That makes the brand you choose now a decision you’ll live with for close to a decade.
This guide looks at the best AC brands in India for 2026: who owns each brand, where it makes its ACs, what its latest lineup offers and who it suits best.
How We Ranked the Best AC Brands in India
Market share data for room air conditioners in India is spotty. Each company reports it differently, and most don’t report it publicly at all. So we ranked on four criteria we could verify:
Reported market presence
If a company has published its share or sales volumes in investor presentations or told the press, we used that figure and named the period it covers. If not, we judged the brand on its known scale, retail presence and how often industry reports name it among the main players.
Manufacturing in India
Local manufacturing makes for steadier supply and better spare-parts availability. We checked every brand’s plants against company announcements and credible media reports.
Service and warranty
An AC is only as good as the technician who installs and repairs it. We looked at each brand’s disclosed service network and the warranties offered on 2026 models.
The 2026 range
Every brand on this list now sells models that meet the revised BEE star standards. We noted the standout technologies each one is leading with this year.
Positions six to ten are a close bunch, so read them as an editorial judgment rather than a sales leaderboard. We have also left out prices, because AC prices changed several times during 2026 and vary widely by seller.

10 Best AC Brands in India (2026)
Here’s how the leading names compare this year, starting with the market leader.
1. Voltas
Voltas was set up in Mumbai in 1954 as a joint venture between Tata Sons and Volkart Brothers, and today it is part of the Tata Group. It’s the brand many Indian households think of first. In an August 2026 investor presentation, Voltas said it held a 17.3% secondary market share in room ACs for FY27 through June 2026, four percentage points ahead of its closest competitor. It also said it sold one million ACs in the first three months of FY27.
Much of that scale comes from reach, since Voltas sells extensively into smaller towns. Its room ACs are made at factories in Chennai and Pantnagar. In March 2026, it launched the AI-led Vertis series of split ACs. Voltas has also signed a binding term sheet for a proposed 50:50 joint venture with Atomberg to make high-efficiency compressors in India, which is still subject to approvals.

2. LG
LG sells air conditioners through LG Electronics India, which listed on the NSE and BSE in October 2025 after its South Korean parent, LG Electronics, sold part of its stake. LG makes air conditioners at factories in Greater Noida and Ranjangaon, near Pune. A third plant, a ₹5,000 crore project at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh, is due to start production in December 2026, with air conditioners first in line.
LG hasn’t been shy about chasing volume. It said it sold more than one million ACs in the January to March quarter of 2026, although Voltas responded that it still holds market leadership. LG’s 2026 portfolio carries forward its familiar AI Dual Inverter compressor, AI Convertible 6-in-1 capacity control and Viraat Mode for fast cooling. Wi-Fi models get Energy Manager+ and a Precool feature that uses geo-fencing through the ThinQ app.
✔ Known for: Dual inverter technology and strong app features
✔ 2026 highlights: BEE 2026 models on sale since early January, Energy Manager+, Precool

Founded in Osaka in 1924, Daikin is one of the largest air conditioning companies in the world. Daikin Airconditioning India is its wholly owned subsidiary. It runs three room AC factories, two in Neemrana, Rajasthan, and one in Sri City, with a combined capacity of around 30 lakh units a year. It aims to raise that to 40 lakh by 2030.
Daikin has built its reputation as the efficiency specialist. It introduced R32 refrigerant ACs in India in 2013, years before the gas became the norm. Its 2026 lineup of more than 60 models leans on 5-star inverter units, Streamer Discharge air purification, its Swing Compressor and DNNS anti-corrosion coating. The company says the range can cool reliably in outdoor temperatures of up to 54°C.

4. Blue Star
Founded by Mohan T Advani in 1943, Blue Star has its headquarters in Mumbai. It is one of the few Indian companies with deep roots in both commercial and home cooling. In April 2026, managing director B Thiagarajan told Business Today that Blue Star held a 14.3% share of the AC market and aimed to reach 15% in FY27.
Blue Star launched 125 room AC models for summer 2026, nearly 50 of them Wi-Fi enabled. They are built at one factory in Sri City and two in Himachal Pradesh. The lineup includes the premium Iconia line, heavy-duty ACs rated to keep running at outdoor temperatures of up to 56°C, and a 1 ton inverter AC with an ISEER of 6.25. Inverter compressors carry a lifetime warranty. Blue Star sells in around 900 towns and counts more than 2,100 service partners.

Lloyd is part of Havells India, which bought the Lloyd consumer durables business in 2017 at an enterprise value of about ₹1,600 crore. Havells has since turned Lloyd into a manufacturing-led brand. After an expansion announced in April 2025, Lloyd’s AC factories at Ghiloth, Rajasthan, and Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, had a combined capacity of 30 lakh units a year.
FY26 was rough. A shorter summer and high channel inventory cut Lloyd’s revenue by about 23% to ₹3,932.47 crore, and the brand posted a loss for the year. Even so, it remains one of the most visible value brands on the market. Its premium Luxuria collection, which includes the StunnAir model, adds AI features and design-led panels to a line best known for keen pricing.
✔ Known for: Competitive pricing and Havells’ distribution
✔ 2026 highlights: Luxuria premium collection alongside mass-market inverter models
✔ Best for: Budget-conscious buyers who still want an inverter AC from a large Indian group
6. Hitachi
Hitachi’s ownership shifted in 2025. Germany’s Bosch completed its acquisition of Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning India on August 1, 2025, and the listed Indian company was renamed Bosch Home Comfort India in September. The Hitachi brand continues in Asia under a long-term license. The company is based in Ahmedabad and runs its factory at Kadi in Gujarat.
The company’s FY25 revenue grew 43.7% to ₹2,756.5 crore, supported by demand for commercial cooling. For 2026, Hitachi Cooling & Heating launched more than 80 models, from the heavy-duty SUMO series and premium Signature lineup to the iZen, Yoshi and Toushi families. Octa Sensor technology, AirCloud Go app control and NanoTech Ultra coating feature across the range. Bosch is also expanding Hitachi’s dealer network in eastern India.
✔ Known for: Solid build and strong heavy-duty models
✔ 2026 highlights: SUMO, Signature and iZen series with AirCloud Go

7. Samsung
Samsung sells its air conditioners through Samsung India, part of South Korea’s Samsung Electronics. In 2024, it said it had started making WindFree air conditioners locally, along with other AI-enabled home appliances. Its Indian appliance production is centered on its Sriperumbudur factory near Chennai.
In January 2026, Samsung moved its entire room AC portfolio to the Bespoke AI WindFree lineup and launched 23 models, including new 4-star options. WindFree pushes air through tiny holes to avoid cold drafts. Samsung says its AI Energy Mode can cut energy use by as much as 30%. The ACs work with the SmartThings app and come with a 10-year warranty on the AI Inverter compressor plus five years of comprehensive cover on key components.
✔ Known for: WindFree draft-free cooling and SmartThings integration
✔ 2026 highlights: All-AI lineup of 23 models, AI Energy Mode
✔ Best for: Bedrooms, older family members and Samsung smart-home users
8. Panasonic

In February 2026, Panasonic launched 57 new room AC models and set a goal of about two million units a year by FY28.
Panasonic plays up cleaner air and connected convenience. The 2026 lineup features nanoe air purification, the MirAIe smart platform and a new DustBuster fan that runs in reverse to clear dust from the outdoor unit. All Wi-Fi models support Matter, so they work with other smart-home gadgets. Panasonic describes the range as Make in India but doesn’t name the factory in its launch material.
✔ Known for: Air purification and Japanese engineering
✔ 2026 highlights: 57 models, DustBuster, Matter support
✔ Best for: Homes in dusty or polluted cities and buyers building a smart home
9. Godrej
Godrej ACs come from the appliances business of Godrej Enterprises Group. In 1958, Godrej became the first Indian company to make refrigerators. Today it builds air conditioners at its Shirwal factory in Maharashtra, where a 2021 expansion added four lakh units of capacity. In 2026, the company described itself as among the fastest-growing AC players in India.
Godrej’s 2026 range is built around the Eon Magnus, Eon Nimbus and Eon Regalis series. The big feature is Smart Sync, which lets a Wi-Fi AC switch a room fan on or off. But Godrej’s real strength is its warranty. Its five-year comprehensive warranty covers gas refills and technician visits, backed by more than 740 service centers.
✔ Known for: Indian heritage and transparent warranty terms
✔ 2026 highlights: Eon series, Smart Sync, five-year comprehensive warranty
✔ Best for: Families who want predictable running costs and an Indian brand
10. Carrier
Carrier is the name most associated with the invention of modern air conditioning. In India, Carrier room ACs are sold by Carrier Midea India, a joint venture between US-based Carrier Global and China’s Midea Group that was formed in 2012. Along with Carrier-branded ACs, the JV sells Midea room air conditioners, and it runs a factory at Supa in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district.
Carrier’s room AC range centers on inverter split models across the popular tonnages. The JV also offers light commercial units and VRF systems, which gives the brand credibility with shops and small offices. The trade-off is a smaller retail footprint than the category leaders, so make sure there’s a service center near you before you buy.
✔ Known for: A century-old cooling name and commercial expertise
✔ 2026 highlights: Inverter split range plus light commercial ACs
✔ Best for: Larger rooms, small offices and showrooms
Buyer’s Guide: How to Choose the Right AC in 2026
The brand matters, but these five checks are just as important.
Read the new BEE star label
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency tightened its star ratings for ACs from January 1, 2026. A model that was 5-star in 2025 now typically carries a 4-star label, and a 4-star becomes 3-star. Cooling performance doesn’t change, but you should compare labels from the same table period. The next revision is already notified for January 2028, when a split AC will need an ISEER of at least 5.80 for 5 stars. Check the ISEER figure on the label, not just the stars.
Choose inverter over fixed speed
An inverter compressor changes speed to suit the heat load, so it doesn’t cycle on and off constantly. That saves electricity and keeps the room temperature steadier. Fixed-speed ACs are cheaper upfront but make sense only for rooms you use a few hours a week.
Match tonnage to room size
As a rough guide, a 1 ton AC suits rooms up to about 120 sq ft. A 1.5 ton unit suits 120 to 180 sq ft, and a 2 ton unit suits 180 to 240 sq ft. Size up if the room is on a top floor, faces the afternoon sun or sits in a very hot city.
Check the refrigerant
R32 is now widely used in new split ACs sold in India. It has a much lower global warming potential than the older R410A and also runs efficiently. Avoid old stock that uses phased-out gases, and ask whether gas top-ups are covered under warranty.
Look hard at after-sales service
Installation makes a difference to how efficient and noisy your AC is. Ask who will install the unit, how long the compressor and PCB warranties run, and whether the brand has an authorized service center near you. A cheaper AC with poor service can cost more over ten years.
FAQs
Which is the No. 1 AC brand in India?
Voltas reports the largest share. Its August 2026 investor presentation put its secondary market share in room ACs at 17.3% for FY27 through June 2026. LG and Blue Star are its closest challengers by reported volumes and share.
Did AC star ratings change in 2026?
Yes. Revised BEE norms took effect on January 1, 2026. Each star level now demands higher efficiency, so most 2025 models dropped one star. Another revision is scheduled for January 2028.
Which AC brand is best for very hot cities?
Look for heavy-duty or high-ambient models. Blue Star rates its heavy-duty range for up to 56°C, and Daikin says its 2026 range cools reliably up to 54°C. Hitachi’s SUMO series is also built for extreme heat.
Is a 5-star AC worth the extra cost?
It usually is if you run the AC for many hours a day across a long summer. For a guest room used occasionally, a 3-star inverter AC is often enough.
Conclusion
The best AC brands in India for 2026 have a few things in common: manufacturing in India, a refreshed lineup built for the stricter BEE norms and a service network you can actually reach. Voltas leads on reach and reported share. LG, Daikin and Blue Star each bring a clear strength, whether that’s smart features, efficiency or heavy-duty cooling.
Start with the room, then the star label, then the service center closest to your home. Pick the brand last. That order will save you more money than any festive discount. For more of our rankings, see our lists of the top AI companies in India and the top logistics companies in India.
