NTPC Q2 Results: Profit Rises 39% to ₹7,030 Crore; ₹3 Dividend Declared

NTPC Q2 results: consolidated net profit rose 38.7% to ₹7,029.56 crore on 21% revenue growth; the board declared a ₹3 interim dividend for FY27.

NTPC

As per NTPC Limited’s exchange filing on October 31, the company’s consolidated net profit attributable to shareholders rose 38.7% to ₹7,029.56 crore for the quarter ended September. NTPC declared an interim dividend of ₹3 per share along with the NTPC Q2 results.

In the same period of the previous year, it had earned a profit of ₹5,066.78 crore. Total consolidated profit, including non-controlling interests, rose to ₹7,350.79 crore from ₹5,225.30 crore, an increase of approximately 40.7%.

The difference between the attributable and total profit figures is the share of earnings that belongs to minority interests in NTPC’s subsidiaries. The board of directors approved the results, which were filed with the stock exchanges on Saturday.

NTPC Q2 results: revenue and profit in numbers

Consolidated revenue from operations increased by 21.2% year-on-year to ₹54,269.95 crore from ₹44,784.05 crore in the corresponding period last year. Consolidated total income was ₹54,715.69 crore, compared with ₹45,262.10 crore last year, according to the filing.

NTPC net profit on a standalone basis rose about 14.3% to ₹5,319.94 crore, compared with ₹4,653.33 crore. Standalone revenue from operations increased by 16.8% to ₹45,752 crore from ₹39,164.82 crore, as reported by Indian PSU.

There was an increase in expenses as well. Total consolidated expenses were ₹48,059.30 crore, up from ₹40,218.03 crore. Fuel costs were ₹28,628.19 crore, up from ₹23,062.34 crore last year. Fuel costs increased by about 24% and made up around 53% of consolidated revenue from operations.

Overall expenses rose around 19.5%, compared with top-line growth of 21.2%. This helped the company improve its consolidated bottom line. Consolidated EBITDA increased by about 22% to ₹15,627 crore from ₹12,814 crore, based on Indian PSU’s computation. This translated into an EBITDA margin of 28.8%, against 28.6% last year.

Solar and trading revenue rise

Solar power income stood at ₹1,138.23 crore, compared with ₹722.52 crore in the previous year, an increase of over 57%. Gross revenue from electricity trading went up to ₹3,172.14 crore from ₹2,655.43 crore during the same period.

The NTPC Q2 results came after the company reported strong operational numbers in early October. Power generated during the July–September quarter increased by 12.93% to 117.9 billion units (BU), compared with 104.4 BU in the same period last year.

Coal dispatch was 28.45% higher at 11.899 million metric tonnes. Power trading volumes were up 22% at 15.06 BU. The company said in its release that it is the largest integrated power utility in India.

NTPC interim dividend and what it means for investors

The board has declared a first interim dividend of ₹3 per equity share of face value ₹10 for FY27. The record date is November 6, 2026, and payment will start from November 25, 2026.

For investors in power sector stocks, the results show that NTPC has been able to grow its profit while adding clean energy to its portfolio. With solar revenue on the rise, more income could come from that segment as the company adds renewable capacity. Renewable-focused peer Adani Green also reported higher Q2 profit last month.

For business leaders, NTPC is a useful indicator of how much electricity the country needs. An increase in its output over the last quarter suggests that power demand has been firm, which supports activity across manufacturing, services and infrastructure.

What happens next

According to its October release, NTPC currently has an installed capacity of over 91 gigawatts (GW). It also has more than 35 GW under construction. The company aims to reach a capacity of 149 GW by 2032, including 60 GW of renewable energy.

The company is also expanding into e-mobility, energy storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear power and green hydrogen. Going forward, investors will want to hear more about capacity additions, fuel costs and how quickly NTPC can ramp up renewables.

Note: Fact & grammar check done — 102 corrections. Headline profit uses consolidated net profit attributable to shareholders (₹7,029.56 crore, +38.7%, ANI); total consolidated profit incl. non-controlling interests is ₹7,350.79 crore (+40.7%, Indian PSU) — both stated in the body. Standalone revenue (₹45,752 crore) and EBITDA/margin figures are from Indian PSU’s report and calculations, attributed as such. Fuel-cost growth (~24%), fuel share of revenue (~53%), expense growth (~19.5%) and solar growth (57%) were calculated from reported figures. Generation, coal dispatch, trading and capacity data come from NTPC’s October 1 operational release (Q2 operations), not the results filing.
