Top 10 E-commerce Companies in the USA 2026
Amazon, Walmart and eBay lead our ranking of the top 10 e-commerce companies in the USA for 2026, ranked by each company's latest reported online sales or GMV, with Costco, Home Depot, Target, Kroger, Chewy, Wayfair and Etsy.

Americans aren’t shopping through the side door online anymore. For a lot of households, online is now the front door.
The statistics tell the story. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, online sales for the second quarter of 2026 were $340.2 billion, seasonally adjusted. That equals 17.1% of all retail sales and is a jump of 12.2% from the same quarter last year. Online sales grew at about 5% a year in 2025. Now they’re growing at a double-digit clip again.
It isn’t just pure-play websites doing well. Warehouse clubs, grocers and home improvement chains now make billions of dollars online, and they use their stores as pickup points and mini warehouses to fill those orders.

So how do you compare these companies? We used one common measure: each company’s most recent full year of online sales, as stated in its annual report or earnings release, or gross merchandise volume (GMV) for marketplaces like eBay and Etsy. Where a company reports only a share of sales, we used the dollar figure from its filings or management statements. All numbers are company-wide unless we say otherwise. We left Apple out because it doesn’t report its online sales.
Below are the top 10 e-commerce companies in the USA for 2026, what each one is good at, and who it’s best for.
Why US Shoppers and Brands Are Moving Online
There are four big reasons the biggest e-commerce companies in the USA keep growing their online business.
Faster Delivery
Same-day and next-day delivery used to be a perk. Now customers expect it. Amazon, Walmart and Target have all reported double-digit growth in fast delivery, which brings more everyday needs like groceries and household goods online.
Stores as Fulfillment Hubs
Most of these retailers ship from their stores or let you pick up orders there. Target fulfilled 97.6% of its 2025 merchandise sales through its stores. Home Depot says about half of its US online orders were fulfilled through a store. That keeps costs down and gets packages out faster.
Memberships and Subscriptions
Membership programs keep customers coming back. Amazon Prime, Walmart+, Target Circle 360 and Chewy’s Autoship all turn one-off buyers into repeat shoppers. Autoship alone made up 83.3% of Chewy’s net sales in fiscal 2025.
Marketplaces and Retail Media
Letting third-party merchants sell on their sites gives these companies a wider range without the inventory risk. Selling ads to brands has also become a big source of profit. Amazon’s advertising revenue grew 26% in the second quarter of 2026, and Walmart’s marketplace grew 52% in its latest quarter.

How to Choose the Right E-commerce Partner in the USA
Whether you’re shopping online or deciding where to sell, here are the things to consider.
Delivery Speed and Coverage
Know how fast you can get delivery to your ZIP code, not just the national promise. Depending on where you live, store-based networks like Walmart, Target and Kroger may deliver faster than warehouse-only sellers.
Fees and Margins for Sellers
Be aware of the fees. Marketplaces charge referral fees, and sellers also pay for ads and fulfillment. Always work out the full cost per order of selling on Amazon, Walmart Marketplace, eBay and Etsy before you list.
Category Fit
Some companies are better at certain products. Chewy for pets, Wayfair for furniture, Home Depot for building materials and Etsy for handmade goods all draw buyers who know exactly what they want.
Returns and Customer Protection
Check the return policy. How long do you have to return a product, and who pays for return shipping? Reputable sellers state delivery times, return windows and refund terms clearly before you pay.
Membership Value
If you buy on these sites often, compare what Prime, Walmart+, Target Circle 360 and a Costco membership will actually save you on the things you buy. The cheapest membership isn’t always the best deal.

Which is the largest e-commerce company in the USA?
Amazon. Its online stores segment alone brought in US$269.3 billion in 2025, far ahead of Walmart’s US$150.4 billion in global e-commerce sales for fiscal 2026.
How big is US e-commerce in 2026?
The Census Bureau puts e-commerce sales at US$340.2 billion, seasonally adjusted, for the second quarter of 2026. That’s 17.1% of all retail sales. In the first half of 2026, e-commerce sales were US$668.1 billion, up 11.1% year over year.
Why is Apple not on this list?
Apple runs one of the busiest online stores in the country, but it doesn’t report its online sales separately. Since our ranking uses company-reported online figures, we couldn’t place it fairly on our list.
Which platform is best for small sellers?
There’s no single best choice. Amazon has the most shoppers, eBay suits pre-owned and collectible goods, and Etsy is built for handmade and vintage items. Many small brands sell on two or three platforms at once.
Conclusion
These are the top 10 e-commerce companies in the USA for 2026. Amazon still dominates the space, but Walmart, Costco, Home Depot, Target and Kroger have used their store networks to build online businesses worth billions of dollars each.
Specialists like eBay, Chewy, Wayfair and Etsy have carved out their own niches and continue to grow. With online sales growing at double digits again, expect this list to keep shifting as Q3 2026 results come in.
