1.The Big Short

The Big Short is a stock market movie during this period with primary characters placing bets against the stock markets such as Michael Burry played by Christian Bale who is hedging fund manager, Jared Vennett an investment banker played by Ryan Gosling and Mark Baum played by Steve Carell a trader. All these made huge money as others were losing theirs when wall street crashed.

Directed by Adam McKay, The Big Short was based on its author Michael Lewis’ novel with Brad Pitt, Marisa Tomei and Selena Gomez being part of cast members. It received five Academy Awards nominations including Best Picture and won one for Best Adapted Screenplay.

2.Margin Call

Margin Call is a Stock Market film set in the initial days of 2007-2008 financial crisis. It tells us about an investment bank on the verge of collapse and its employees trying to save it.

J.C. Chandor directed this film which starred Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons and Zachary Quinto among others including Penn Badgley Margin Call was nominated for best original screenplay at the academy awards.

3.The Wolf of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street is a movie about stock market that happened in the 1980s and 1990s. It is based on how a stockbroker named Jordan Belfort (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) swindled investors millions while being stock rich himself. The name of the film was borrowed from its author Jordan Belfort’s same-titled book.

Directed by Martin Scorsese, The Wolf of Wall Street also features Jonah Hill Margot Robbie Matthew McConaughey Kyle Chandler among others. Five nominations for an Oscar where made in this film including Best Picture.

4.Inside Job

This Stock Market documentary investigates the root causes behind 2007-2008 financial crisis. The interviews were conducted with some of those who are believed to have been instrumental in causing it like former Chairman of Federal Reserve Alan Greenspan, ex-US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and many more.

Directed by Charles Ferguson, Inside Job scooped the Award for Best Documentary Feature during the Academy Awards.

5.Wall Street

Wall Street is a Stock Market film set during the 1980s. It tells us about Gordon Gekko (portrayed by Michael Douglas), a heartless stockbroker who cannot be stopped from getting richer any way he can. Equally stars Charlie Sheen Daryl Hannah and Martin Sheen.
Oliver Stone directed wall street which won academy award for best actor (Michael Douglas).

6.Boiler Room

Set within the stock market of the 1990S, Boiler Room is a film that tells the story of a group of young stockbrokers who work at a corrupt brokerage firm. Starring Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel, Nia Long and Ben Affleck.

Ben Younger directed Boiler Room which was nominated for The Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival.

7.The Big Bull

India in the 1990s and early 2000s provides the setting for The Big Bull, a stock market movie. The movie is about Harshad Mehta (played by Abhishek Bachchan), a stockbroker who committed fraud and made a fortune out of it. Journalists Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu wrote This Scam which served as its basis.

Kookie Gulati directed The Big Bull which also features Ileana D’Cruz, Nikita Dutta, Sohum Shah and Samir Soni.

8.Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is another Stock Market movie that is sequel to Wall Street. It takes place in 2000s and revolves around Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) trying to rebuild his life after being released from prison. Carey Mulligan, Josh Brolin Eli Wallach and Susan Sarandon also star in this movie.

Oliver Stone directed Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture.

9.Money Monster

Located in present day New York City, Money Monster is about Lee Gates (George Clooney) as he gets held hostage during his financial TV show by Jack O’Connell playing a viewer. Thrillingly suspenseful,this film will challenge your perception on how safe your money truly is.

Other actors include Julia Roberts Dominic West Caitriona Balfe as well as Jodie Foster, who directed Money Monster.

10.Pi

Stock Market movie set at the present time, Pi is. The film is about Max Cohen (Sean Gullette), a mathematician trying to find a pattern in the Stock Market. Full of uncertainty and leaving one guessing till the end.

Darren Aronofsky directed Pi which was nominated for Sundance Grand Jury Prize.
